Great 60s Pop – 18: The Regents (+ Blind Blake)

Tip-off from Martin Carr. Cheers, mate.

What we have here is the original of ‘Barbara Ann’ (originally spelt with an extra ‘e’). And – even better – the original of ‘Sloop John B’ by the incredible Bahamian calypso singer Blind Blake. Not 60s, but fuck it. Who’s making the rules around here?

Ha! Martin was actually talking about another Regents altogether – his favourite record when he was 10. I’d completely forgotten them. It’s pretty cool. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqSSttLQrHw
